Onlays Save Tooth Structure

Procedure Details

This patient knew there was a problem with some of his back teeth, when it began to hurt when he bit down on food and when he ate something cold. The old silver fillings placed when he was a teenager were beginning to break down. Openings at the margins of the fillings allowed food to get trapped, causing decay. In the past, the usual option was to drill down the tooth and place a crown on top. But now we can save much more tooth structure with new techniques and materials, Porcelain onlays and inlays are much less invasive than crowns, while providing the same benefit in strength and aesthetics.
