General Dentistry
Washington DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia
Staying Healthy From Head to Toe– Now that the internet educates patients about the latest general dentistry treatments, a well-informed patient possess a higher “dental IQ” than ever before. Many of our patients arrive at our office for a first visit already well-schooled in the benefits of modern dentistry, and the important connection between oral health and body health. Because there is no doubt about the elevated importance of restorative dentistry in our lives, our highly trained doctors are in greater demand than ever.
The role of general restorative dentistry is at the forefront of our dental practice, and we work diligently to stay at the forefront of the advances in research and technology that keep dentistry at the cutting edge.
- Drill-Free Fillings – Say “good-bye” to the high-pitched drill of yesterday. A pain-free powder-under-pressure treatment whisks away decay, without the need for a traditional drill. A white liquid that flows into the filling space—then hardens instantly under a gentle light—forms a state-of-the-art filling that blends so seamlessly that the result mimics the virgin tooth. You can barely see where the filling begins and the tooth structure ends.
- Quiet Drills – And if there is drilling to be done—new “electric drills” are softer, quieter to be around.
- Detecting Cavities Earlier Than Before – Since 80 percent of decay begins in the tiny biting crevices of the teeth, cavities often remain undetected until they invade more tooth structure and create more serious problems. No longer. With Diagnodent, our doctors find and take care of decay sooner than ever before—with a non-invasive, laser-light that reliably, gently detects decay hiding in tiny places.
- Crowns – While dental crowns have been around for many decades, a new generation of fine-grade porcelain gives today’s crowns the astonishing look of real teeth. Mimicking nature’s pearlescent glow and translucency, these crowns are difficult to distinguish next to their natural-born neighbors. Also, newer, stronger materials eliminate the need for metal under-layers that cast an unsightly dark shadow under the gum line. In fact some older crowns have this appearance and are often replaced to achieve a more esthetic result. The new techniques in fashioning crowns also allow crowns to fit seamlessly into any bite.
- Implants – Today, no patient needs to accept life with missing teeth. Our dentists now can permanently “implant” a material that serves as a new root to replace a missing root. They are anchored into the jawbone and a new crown is placed on top of the new root. Result: a new permanent “implanted” tooth!
- Invisalign Invisible Braces – Many of our patients have been unhappy with their misaligned smiles, but unwilling to opt for metal braces they find to untenable to wear as an adult. But that has all changed since the advent of the adult-friendly Invisalign braces. This system uses a series of custom-made, nearly undetectable aligners worn for about two weeks, moving your teeth, gradually, until the result is achieved: straighter teeth.
- Laser –And we can’t forget the other players on the stage of cosmetic dentistry: The gummy smile is a thing of the past after a few passes with the painless dental laser—in one short visit. This technology reshapes the gum line to expose more tooth structure and create a graceful smile line for the lips to follow.
- Bonding – This is the cosmetic dentist’s go-to treatment for minor esthetic changes and to correct teeth in areas of low bite pressure, such as the front teeth. Tooth-colored material is shaped and hardened to fill out areas, to reshape, lengthen and lighten existing teeth.
- Veneers – One of the most frequently requested treatments in our office is “The Porcelain Veneer.” Thin as a contact-lens, this delicate porcelain shell, in the artistic hands of our dentists, makes a dream smile come to life. This dental powerhouse works wonders: closing gaps, lightening color and properly aligning a smile.
- Whitening – Many patients start their new smile process with a one-visit session in our whitening suite. Treat yourself to a little Smile Therapy and whiten your teeth with BriteSmile Tooth Whitening System. A powerful, gentle blue light energy whitens teeth in about an hour—all while you relax and watch a great movie on DVD!
